The story of ODULINE started with two very important people in my life—my mother and my husband.
Growing up, my mother always had a water bottle in hand, constantly reminding me to stay hydrated wherever I went. She was adamant that the solution to any problem I had should start with a drink (of water). My mother is the true inspiration behind ODULINE, and you’ll learn more about her later on.
The spark for ODULINE came on a winter’s day in Hobart, during one of my travels with my husband as a locum doctor and nurse. We were used to moving from place to place, but still, as North Queenslanders, we weren’t prepared for the cold! My hands were warm and snug inside my coat, while my husband’s cold hand held my water bottle. At one point, he asked, “Why don’t you just put it in your bag?” I laughed and told him it wouldn’t fit—and whenever I did use larger bags, they had a habit of spilling.
That’s when the idea came to me: a bag that could carry my water bottle securely, without sacrificing style or practicality. The plan was only to make one for myself and my mother, but soon a few friends started asking for one too. I knew then that this idea had potential.
What does ODULINE mean?
The beautiful woman you see here is my mother, and for most of my life, I thought her name was Adeline. That was until five years ago, when I learned the truth about her real name—a name that would become the very heart of this brand.
My mother was born with the unique name Oduline [OD-JU-LEAN], a name as special as she is. But when she was young, her grade 2 teacher decided that “Oduline” was too difficult for fellow classmates to pronounce, and instead started calling her Adeline. From that moment on, the name stuck, and to the world, she became Adeline.
The Modern Water Bearer
My mother is a Christian woman, however there was something that excited her about reading her horoscope in Women’s Magazines and the Sunday Newspaper. Born in February, she is an Aquarius—known as the water bearer.
With a brand that focuses on bags that allows people to carry their water with them on their daily adventures, and a mission to bring clean drinking water to underserved communities, it only seem fitting for the name to provide the complete picture, ODULINE: The Modern Water Bearer.
So what’s in a name? In this name, Oduline, there is a mother, a brand, and a mission.
